Former Days Inn Site (Corning) - Expedited Cleanup of Contamination Proposed

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) is proposing an expedited cleanup for the Former Days Inn site (“site”) located at 23 Riverside Drive, Corning, Steuben County and at eight off-site properties where contaminated material was taken from the site.
Summary of the Investigation
In September of 2015, under DEC oversight, the site owner completed a site characterization that included analyzing numerous surface and subsurface soil samples as well as a groundwater evaluation. The investigation delineated fill containing ash, brick and glass and found elevated levels of arsenic, lead and cadmium on the southeastern portion of the site. Groundwater at the site was not impacted.
Next Steps
Once approved, the work plans will be made available to the public and the activities detailed in the work plans will be implemented. Upon completion of the work, a report will be prepared that documents the activities that were performed.
