Wellsville: Concerns expressed about Genesee River Flood Control Project

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers was out in force Friday inspecting the flood control project in Wellsville between the Wellsville Golf Course and the former Sinclair Refinery Site. Initial findings posed concerns according to Robert W. Remmers, PE, Chief of the Operations and Technical Support Section. Remmers told RNN that vegetation and tree growth in and around the flood control project represented "a concern."
A crew of at least a dozen were documenting conditions along the Genesee River in Wellsville. Crews were documenting addresses and snapping photo's of properties, tree's, fences, etc. Remmers said the report would be forwarded to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and eventually the village. Remmers said it would likely be "a year or two" before any action is taken. He said Friday's focus was identifying priority issues. When asked if some of the findings were serious, Remmers responded "yes."
