Livingston County: Felony Assault Following Deputy Sheriff Being Struck

GENESEO:  Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty and Geneseo Police Chief Eric Osganian report the arrest of an Avon man for allegedly assaulting a Deputy Sheriff.
On September 11, 2016, the Livingston County Sheriff's Office was called to assist the Geneseo Police Department with a fatal motor vehicle collision on Avon Road in the Village of Geneseo.
Deputy Martin Herkimer was one of the initial responders to the scene and approached one of the driver's involved, 29-year-old Michael Bellonte, who was walking away from the scene. When the Deputy Sheriff approached him, Bellonte allegedly punched him in the face.
Bellonte was quickly taken into custody without any further incident.  Bellonte was transported to Strong Hospital due to the nature of the crash. The Sheriff's Office later obtained an arrest warrant for Bellonte for charges of Assault in the 2nd Degree, Obstructing Governmental Administration in the 2nd Degree, and Harassment in the 2nd Degree.
The warrant was served on October 18th by Sheriff's Investigators.  Bellonte was arraigned in the Village of Geneseo Court before Judge Bushnell and remanded to the Livingston County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail.
The fatal motor vehicle collision remains under investigation by the Geneseo Police Department with the Sheriff’s Office assisting.
