Operation Safe Interstate Nets Another

INTERSTATE 390: Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports another drug arrest on Interstate 390 as a result of Operation Safe Interstate. On October 25th Deputy Shawn Whitford stopped a vehicle on Interstate 390 for a vehicle and traffic law violation. Following a roadside investigation, a passenger in the car was identified as Javier Alvarez age 37 from Mt. Morris.  Alvarez was allegedly found to be in possession of 2 bags of cocaine, 17 bags of heroin, 5 hypodermic needles, and a digital scale disguised as a cell phone. Alvarez was charged with 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, and Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic Needle. Alvarez was taken into custody and transported to Central Booking at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention.    He was arraigned on October 26th in Geneseo Town Court before Justice Houston.  The Judge remanded Alvarez to the custody of the Sheriff on $1,000 cash or $2,000 bond.
