Scio Board adopts new law dealing with code regulations

Following a public hearing during which some community members asked questions, the Scio Town Board Wednesday night adopted a new local law dealing with code enforcement. According to town Supervisor Kim Demick, the law hadn't been adjusted in 18 years. She said the new law will "bring it into current times."
According to town officials, the law will give Code Officer Charles Cagle "more enforcement tools." Officials said that in the past, the Code Officer could issue tickets, but the old law offered few enforcement options. The law was drafted by Town Attorney Mike Finn. Board member Crystal Wiech called the law a "good proposal...good for the town." The town had been working on the plan since March. The law will take effect immediately upon filing with the New York State Secretary of State.
