Veterans Affairs,VFW salutes veterans - Gold Star family from Scio to speak

BATH -- The public is invited to A "Military Family Salute" to military families, veterans and reservists slated for 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at the American Legion Post 173, 14 West Williams St., Bath. The free event includes brunch, with guest speakers state Assemblyman Phil Palmesano and Gold Star Parents Dan and Deb Dunham, parents of the late U.S. Marine Cpl. Jason Dunham, of Scio. A member of the Marine Corps Security Force Regiment, 3rd Battalion 7th Marines, Dunham is credited with saving the lives of two members of his unit while on patrol in 2004 in Iraq. Dunham, who suffered fatal injuries after deliberately falling on a grenade, is the first Marine to receive the Medal of Honor since the Vietnam War. Local military agencies, including the Steuben County Veterans Services Agency also will be present, providing information on local resources and programs. The event is sponsored by the American Red Cross, Finger Lakes Region, Services to Armed Forces Committee. Reservations by October 23, 2016 are required.
