Wellsville Couple married 69 years - Daily Reporter

WELLSVILLE — In the early 40s there were popular barn dances on Truax Road and Shirley Johnson caught the eye of Wesley Mattison as she did the jitterbug.
She was dancing with other people, but when a square dance song came on, Shirley was without a partner.
"I hopped over the rail and away we went!" said Wesley. Shirley chimes in, "He got mad at me because I was dancing with another guy!" To which he says, "Oh boy, she'll tell you anything! But oh boy did we have a good time."
Before he went to World War II with the Army, he asked her to marry him. When he returned, they were married. Wesley and Shirley Mattison were married on June 21, 1947 in Alma and the 69th anniversary was celebrated with a special guest on Friday at their Wellsville home on Farnum Street.
State Sen. Catharine Young, R-Olean, stopped by the house to congratulate the couple and present them with a proclamation from the state Senate for 69 years of marriage. A family member brought out their wedding photo from 1947 and Wesley's eyes lit up and he said "There's my honey!"
Shirley quickly said "There's MY honey!"
Wesley added, "Best looking woman in town."
