Wellsville woman faces drug charges at county jail

Allegany County Sheriff Rick Whitney reports that on October 17th, 2016 following an investigation at the Allegany County Jail, the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit Investigators arrested Sara A. Ward, age 40 of Wellsville for the following charges:
- Promoting Prison Contraband in the 1st Degree. (2 counts)
- Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree. (2 counts)
-Possession of a Hypodermic Instrument. (1 count)
The arrest stems from an incident in which Ward allegedly introduced crack cocaine, heroin and a hypodermic instrument into the Allegany County Jail.  Deputies said Ward was in possession of a hypodermic instrument which was found while she was being booked into the jail on other charges.  Ward was also found to be in possession of approximately 2 grams of crack cocaine and 10 bags of heroin which were concealed within a body cavity and found by Corrections staff during a routine search.
Ward was processed by Investigators and transported by Deputies to the Town of Amity Court where she was arraigned and remanded back to the Allegany County Jail on $10,000.00 cash bail or $20,000.00 property bond.  Ward is to reappear in the Town of Amity Court on November 30th, 2016 for additional court action.
