Election officials in Allegany County say absentee and military ballots could alter races in two communities. In the Village of Wellsville Justice race, Democrat incumbent Chris O'Connor currently holds a 29 vote lead over challenger and former mayor Brad Thompson. As of 1 p.m.Monday, officials say 145 absentee ballots were sent out and 119 have been returned. Officials said they will begin tabulating the results Tuesday late morning. Military and federal ballots will be accepted via mail until Nov. 21.
In the bid for Rushford Justice, a tight race could also be decided by absentee ballots. Write-in candidate Joseph Fusco currently holds a 35 vote lead over Republican Charlie Bliss. There are 51 absentee ballots in Rushford.
Election workers in Belmont will begin counting the absentee ballots Tuesday morning.
Election officials said they will certify the results before Thanksgiving.
