Firefighters make quick stop on Scio house fire

A quick response limited damage when firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire at 5612 State Route 417 in the Town of Scio. Scio and Allentown fire crews along with Wellsville Ambulance were called out at 12:11 p.m. Sunday to a home located between Wolf Spring and Drum Road. Scio First Assistant Fire Chief Robert Harms said the fire was limited to a dryer located in the basement of the home. He said there was some light smoke damage but nothing structurally. Harms credited firefighters with making a "good stop." Twenty-one members responded from Scio with more from Allentown. Additional tankers were called in from Bolivar and Wellsville, but they were not needed. Bolivar and Belmont provided standby coverage. Harms said the fire was under control "within minutes." There were no injuries to firefighters or the Wagoner family who resided in the home. Scio fire units returned to service at 1:40 p.m.
