I-86 WB between Almond and Angelica was closed shortly after 7 p.m. Sunday following several incidents. Whiteout conditions were reported along the Interstate. There were also several vehicle crashes, a car headed eastbound in the westbound lane and a fully involved tractor trailer fire. On scene radio reports from a fire chief said the big rig was hauling whirlpools. He told 911 "they're all melted now." Heavy smoke filled the highway. There were no serious injuries. Firefighters and state troopers were busy helping escort motorists off I-86.
UPDATE: The westbound lanes were still closed as of 2:30 a.m. Monday. Shortly before 2 a.m., the truck debris was hauled off the highway, but state crews needed time to plow the Interstate. At 2:30 a.m. DOT officials said they expected I-86 to re-open soon.
UPDATE #2: Yes, all lanes are open.
