Dean's unique coaching and teaching ability had a large impact on may football players and his teams dominated their opponents year after year. He was also instrumental in the formation of the Portville Little League baseball program during the 1970s and was actively involved in several community organizations. Dean was most proud of the work he and others did with youth sports teams in the early years and was still amazed at the success of the football program.
