Olean Common Council to name street after former Dresser-Rand CEO

When the Olean Common Council meets Tuesday evening, it is expected to name a street after the late John "Jack" Murphy, an Olean native and the former CEO at Dresser Industries. As Dresser's youngest CEO, he was a catalyst for change that shaped Dresser into a global oil services giant. Murphy died May 1, 2015. Here is the resolution the Council will act on:
 
TO OFFICIALLY NAME THE NEWLY CONSTRUCTED ROADWAY FOR THE KROG DEVELOPMENT ALONG BUFFALO STREET AS JACK MURPHY BOULEVARD UPON THE ACCEPTANCE OF THE ROADWAY BY THE CITY OF  OLEAN FROM KROG CORPORATION

WHEREAS, the New York State Department of Transportation has approached Krog Corporation regarding the newly constructed roadway connecting their development to Buffalo Street; and

WHEREAS, Krog Corporation has indicated that they plan to turn the roadway over to the City of Olean upon its completion, therefore leaving the responsibility of naming the roadway up to the City; and

WHEREAS, John Jack Murphy was a long time employee of Olean Dresser Clark (now Dresser-Rand) from 1954 to 1996 who greatly contributed to the company’s continuing success; and

WHEREAS, the Common Council is desirous of honoring Mr. Murphy for his many years of dedication to forging a strong, profitable company in Dresser-Rand, thus benefiting the overall economy of the City of Olean;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Common Council hereby officially names the newly constructed roadway for the Krog development along Buffalo Street as Jack Murphy Boulevard upon the acceptance of the roadway by the City of Olean from Krog Corporation.
