Wellsville Creative Arts Center 2016 Artist Series – Paintings by Harriett Bellows

The Wellsville Creative Arts Center will host Harriett Bellows in a paintings show from November 14 to January 7, 2017.  There is no cost to the public for this exhibit and there will be several pieces available to purchase.
The Wellsville Creative Arts Center will be open Monday and Friday 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday and Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Wednesday 10 a.m.-10 p.m., with extended hours for classes and events.
Harriett Bellows began her artistic studies as a child on her family’s property in Western NY, experimenting with rocks to create applied color.  This led her on to work with clay in college to create forms and shapes after studying under Clara Katherine Nelson who had been a student of the painter Hans Hofmann.  She then opened a clay studio after completing her post graduate degree.

Harriett’s curiosity of movement, space and travel also led her to complete aviation training and paved the way for a thirty-year career in aviation.  She has worked out of both her upstate studio as well as an Eastern North Carolina painting studio, but has since closed the NC studio and now only occupies her New York studio.
The artist states that she now intends to:
“…explore and define my earlier dialogues between two and three dimensional concerns.”
